1.The art criticism process is the steps in which one can intricately describe and understand a piece. The four steps not only questions the aesthetics of the piece but also considers the perspectives of the creator and what they would have intended their piece to say. Furthermore, the questions also allow one to analyze the "successful" of the piece and or whether it is "important". 2. a. I see an all red painted box that has black paint added in a Chinese brush stroke style design. In the background there are two mountains. Getting closer to the front there are small hills and a stream and or river. In the foreground there are two small trees that are grown on the other side of the river from the hills. b. The choice of using black paint in a brush stroke looking style adds to the assumed intent of the creator that they wanted to make the style of their box to be of an old Chinese painting. Furthermore, the use of adding nature elements such as mountains, trees and hills add to the aesthetic emulating a Chinese design and or style. c. The artist is trying to say that, he is attempting to emulate a Chinese style. d. The artist chose this art style as it can be assumed he probably likes the style and chose to try it. e. The historical milieu that surrounds the piece is that the style of painting originates from Chinese designs and paintings done on pottery and cutlery that has been seen in many dynasties throughout Chinese history. f. The piece was probably created with a Chinese painting-like style as the creator probably likes the style. 4. The piece was somewhat successful as the paintings done on each side of the box was as expected and can be interpreted as the intended objects that the creator wanted. However, the shape of the box was not of a box but an oddly shaped vase, which was note intended.
7. I believe that this class, Art I is used to introduce basic concepts and how to use different mediums. These concepts are used to help the students learn how to create a more detailed and or technique based piece. For example shading and proportions were introduced which helped keep a consistency in shapes and helped give value to pieces. Furthermore, the exposure of different mediums such as paint and charcoal allow the students to have variety and choice when creating their own pieces. Finally the purpose of this class is to start of on the basics to essentially introduce the student to art.
I feel that Illustration Friday's helped me draw inspiration, even though there was an incentive for a grade, the idea that every week we had a drawing to accomplish actually made me look forward to know what was for the next week to draw. I feel that it did help me grow as someone who draws, in the aspect that it forced me to draw objects that I usually wound not such as umbrellas and teacups. This assignment was really fun and I would use it even outside of school.
14. A technique I used that I thought was successful was the use of painting my box in a Chinese brushstroke style. I really liked how the trees and mountain turned out as I did not base the painting of any one specific image. Also I liked how the stream and vegetation near the stream looked like it fit with the rest of the painting.
